This bipartisan bill would expand the number of stem cell lines that are eligible for federally funded research. Actor Michael J. Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991, won three Emmy awards for Spin City when he retired to pursue the cause for stem cell research fulltime. "There are so many diseases that can be cured or at least helped. We have lost so much time already and I just really can't bear to lose anymore," she said.
Mrs. Reagan's efforts on stem cell research are supported by former presidents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and actor Michael J. Fox.
