Stroke Advocacy

Heart Disease and Stroke. You're the Cure.

Every year millions of Americans die needlessly from heart disease and stroke. Advances in medical research and prevention efforts can make a difference.

To save lives we have to prevent and search for the cures to the diseases that are killing too many people in your state and across the nation. But, more funding is needed for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Your Members of Congress can do their part for additional research and prevention funding by signing onto the congressional letter of support. Please take a minute to talk to your lawmaker's office about this important issue. You can call 1-800-777-8516 and you will be connected to a staff member in your legislator's office. Ask Your Lawmakers to Support
the HEART for Women Act

Earlier this spring the HEART for Women Act (S. 2278/H.R. 4747) was introduced in Congress by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Representative Lois Capps (D-CA) and Representative Barbara Cubin (R-WY). The legislation aims to improve the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of women with or at risk for heart disease and stroke. The problem is clear — more women than men die each year from cardiovascular disease and now lawmakers are offering a solution. Some key solutions offered in the bill include continuing education for health care providers as well as improved access to screening for low income and uninsured women. You’re the Cure advocates have already been instrumental in gaining support for this important legislation. Advocates in Alaska showed Senator Murkowski their appreciation for sponsoring the bill by presenting nearly 400 postcards thanking her for her leadership. You can show your support by asking your lawmakers to join as bill co-sponsors of this important legislation. Take Action now and send a message to your members of Congress.
